Why is Trump undoing decades of U.S. policy on Jerusalem?

"How about the Evangelical Christians whose support has been critical for Trump, and who are known to support declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving the U.S. embassy there? Two-thirds of Evangelicals say Trump’s policy is already leaning toward Israel—a proportion that’s even higher than that of the rest of the population. Even on moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, the support is hardly overwhelming: While 53 percent of Evangelicals support the move, 40 percent oppose it."

When you consider that back in the 00s at the high tide of Christian Zionism a large majority would have enthusiastically supported this move this shows a significant and welcome shift. If the current trend continues that Zionism could completely lose it's Evangelical support base in the United States. Added to this is the fact of the Evangelical base becoming increasingly disillusioned with it's defacto leadership due to the latter's Baptizing of economic policies that they are more and more realizing have done tremendous damage to them and their communities. So the continuing support for Zionism by people such as Hagee and Michael Brown might even accelerate the process.

Yes, it looks like Trump's outburst has been an unmitigated disaster for the Zionists and for US Régime itself.

The thing is though that this is part of a wider trend, US Evangelicals have been incredibly helpful for the Zionists in terms of their political support as far back as the 1980s. The ever increasing shift of them as shown in this poll away from the "Christian Zionist" position could have serious enough consequences for Zionism especially as increasingly younger Evangelicals are adopting a Pro-Palestinian view point. Protestant Evangelicalism can be a tremendous force for good or a tremendous force for evil, compare the Methodists who built up the Trade Union movement in England and Wales to the DUP during the Troubles- the thing is though that ADL and JBS Jewish Zionist types always despised these people.

    I am surprised.

I had thought Zionism was practically the raison d'etre of those American Evangelicals.

Committed "Evangelicals" are strange creatures, I grew up around them so I know that better than most. They are incapable of being extremely unpredictable. The collapse of Christian Zionism is underway in the United States. The majority will probably wash their hands of the situation while their will be a significant Pro-Palestinian minority in ten years if current trends continue.
