Archbishop Lefebvre while very famous in his native France isn't that well known at all in Ireland. There is a lot that could be said about him but in brief after Vatican II he set up the Society of Saint Pius the X th in order to continue to form Priests in the old way and teach them to offer the Old Roman Mass as codified at Trent. A real old school Reactionary of the French type he moved further and further away from the mainline Church Authorities leading up to his ex-communication in 1984 for consecrating three Bishops without permission (one of them being our own Bishop Williamson). Anyway in 1990 he was asked his views on Muslim immigration into France and replied that he thought it was a bad idea because Muslims are much more likely to engage in rape than indigenous Christians are and pointed to Muslim rape gangs in the UK. This was long before the Rotterdam scandal broke! Of course the French government gave him a heavy fine for saying what he said.
