Of course he is. My concern is for the ordinary workers - not for those executive chancers.

It's not about him in particular. You'd have to put in place a whole new political culture based on patriotism and public service - instead of the burglar's political culture we have now.

That said, I have no doubt at all that there are people in the middle ranks of Irish Rail that could run the company better than him for the wages they are currently getting. We could say the same about pretty much all public service senior positions. God knows the senior banksters are probably the last people we should be allowing to run the banks are are still in public ownership.

So you are saying that someone that actually can run a company should be put in charge

You see I don't accept that Irish Rail is not being run well enough. It's fulfilling the mandate it's been given by the state. The question of salaries is outside of the control of Irish Rail, as civil service pay is decided by the government.

So does the educational system and the health service. Public transport is a social service. Imagine if employers had to send private buses and cars for their employees, how much that would add to their costs.

I often wonder what would actually happen if the Shinners and the other far lefties went into power. They want it all but don't seem to want to pay for it.

As bad as the Country has been economically, they'd wreck it altogether.

I was talking to one of the boys from CIE in Roscommon recently. He told me that they never received any pay rise from CIE after the last strike. Any deal done between the unions and the management was not honored by the company. That's why they will go on strike again.
I think they have a point there.
