More than 1,800 motorists are having their speeding fines and penalty points revoked after An Garda Síochána and GoSafe discovered that a static speed camera on the N17 near Claremorris, Co Mayo was not properly certified.
Although the camera was fully functional and accurately detecting speeding offences, the lack of certification meant that fines and penalty points issued between 20 December 2024 and 12 February 2025 are now being cancelled.
This incident highlights the importance of proper certification for enforcement equipment and ensures that motorists are not penalized unfairly due to administrative errors.

Who Is Affected?
A total of 1,871 fixed-charge notices are being revoked, including:- 800 motorists who had already paid and had penalty points applied
- 123 motorists who had paid but had not yet received penalty points
- The remainder had not yet paid and no penalty points were applied
Refunds and Penalty Point Removal
Gardaí have begun notifying affected drivers via post, confirming that:- Refunds will be issued where necessary
- Penalty points will be removed if they were already applied
- No action is required from impacted drivers
