Irish News Sinn Féin Surges in Polls as Fine Gael Hits Record Low

A new Ipsos B&A poll, published by the Irish Times, shows Sinn Féin has significantly increased its support, reclaiming the lead as the country’s most popular political party.

According to the survey, Sinn Féin now stands at 26%, a six-point jump since the last poll in November 2024, conducted just before the General Election. In contrast, Fine Gael has dropped to 16%, its lowest level of support ever recorded in this polling series—a fall of three percentage points.

Fianna Fáil Holds Steady as Smaller Parties Shift Slightly

Fianna Fáil also saw a modest increase, rising by one point to 22%. Support for independents and smaller parties remains relatively stable:

  • Independents/Others: 17% (no change)
  • Social Democrats: 7% (+1)
  • Labour: 5% (+1)
  • Green Party: 3% (–1)
  • People Before Profit–Solidarity: 3% (no change)
  • Aontú: 1% (–2)
Undecided voters remain unchanged at 19%, though this group is excluded from the main party rankings.

Public Sentiment on Coalition Remains Divided

The poll also revealed public dissatisfaction with the current Fianna Fáil–Fine Gael coalition, with 51% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction, while 39% were satisfied.

Additionally, nearly two-thirds (64%) disapproved of the Government’s decision to make a political agreement with Independent TD Michael Lowry. Only 15% supported the move, while 21% were unsure.

About the Survey

The poll was conducted with 1,200 respondents across Monday and Tuesday of this week. The margin of error is ±2.8%, giving a reliable snapshot of the current political landscape.
