President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the latter stated that an end to Ukraine’s war with Russia remains “very, very far away.”
The comments come just days after a heated exchange between the two leaders during a meeting at the White House. Taking to Truth Social, Trump condemned Zelensky’s remarks, suggesting they indicated a reluctance to pursue peace.
“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote.
He went on to claim that Zelensky is unwilling to seek a resolution to the conflict as long as he has U.S. and European backing.
“It is what I was saying—this guy doesn’t want there to be peace as long as he has America’s backing. Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelensky, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S.—probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?” he added.
The remarks further highlight the widening divide between Trump and Zelensky, particularly as debates over continued U.S. military support for Ukraine intensify.
